A new practical guide makes clear that inorganic substances with the same chemical composition but different crystalline forms are regarded as different substances under REACH.

ECHA has released an IT tool that enables companies to check which information from their registration dossiers will be made public on the internet. Its purpose is to help registrants to prepare dossiers that can be disseminated without revealing business-confidential information.

Manufacturers, importers or only representatives who intend to submit the Lead Dossier
early, ahead of the 30 November deadline, can profit from a special service from
ECHA’s Helpdesk. To promote early registrations and avoid a last-minute rush, ECHA is
ready to address Lead Registrants’ requests on a priority basis. When appropriate,
assistance will be provided over the phone.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published Guidance for Annex V
exemptions from the obligation to register. The document is now available in

ECHA’s new practical guide helps industry to consider all possible alternative methods for data generation on hazards to make sure that testing on vertebrate animals shall only be undertaken a last resort.

Member States have alerted ECHA and the European Commission to industry positions on intermediates, which appear not to be in line with the definition of intermediates in REACH and the guidance on intermediates. The purpose of the document agreed among all authorities is to explain to industry when a chemical substance can be solely registered as an intermediate and when a standard registration is required.

This new guidance is for companies who recycle and recover. Recycled or recovered chemical substances do not necessarily need to be registered under REACH. The guidance provides advice on the obligations under REACH and clarifies the criteria that need to be met in order for companies to benefit from that exemption. Companies who do not fulfil these obligations will have to register their recycled or recovered chemical substances. It also explains their obligation to share information on recycled and recovered substances in the supply chain.

ECHA is issuing an update of the “Consumer Exposure Estimation” (Chapter R.15) of the Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment.
